Our Matariki concert on 22 June was a stellar event with a full house!
With music from the Academy's Senior Choir and Choral Scholars under the baton of Elise Bradley MNZM
(recent recipient of the King Charles III Coronation Medal for services to Music),
the Junior Choir under the directorship of Amelia Giles, and visiting choir The Young Women's Choral
Projects of San Francisco, led by Dr Matthew Otto, it was a concert to remember!
Audience members were also treated to a world premiere of a performance by living NZ taonga
Witi Ihimaera, and musical artist Kingsley Spargo, as they performed a live version
of 'Astromancer' by Witi Ihimaera.
It was a truly unmissable event!
We were thrilled that the World Choir Games were held in Auckland in 2024, giving Senior Choir the opportunity to
compete without needing to leave New Zealand! And what a wonderful experience we had!
We competed in the Children's Choir Open Category held in the Auckland Town Hall, along with 11 other children's
choirs from all over the world, including China, Taipei and Australia.
We were thrilled to be awarded a Gold Medal for our competition recital -
an amazing accomplishment, especially considering NZCCA is only 18 months old, and this was our first competition.
We also got to sing a Friendship Concert at MOTAT, along with the Australian Children's Choir and Shanghai Sfuture Choir.
This was a great opportunity to sing in a more informal setting and make friends with fellow singers from different countries.
We are so pleased we were able to have this chance to compete and share on the world stage and look forward to the
next opportunity in the near future!
